Steve Rude wants you to know he will be returning to comics.

This is no secret, but the Wisconsin born artist and co-creator of the popular comic book “Nexus” said it’s time. When he spoke with us for “The Science Fiction Show” podcast June 11, he said he’s ready for a return. He’s been away from comics since the previous resurrection of Nexus (with writer Mike Baron). The great news? This wasn’t some calculated decision. The decision simply came to him. Besides, he’s got 10 years worth of The Moth stories in the queue.

Rude talks about a wealth of things in a 45 minute interview with our show. We touch on his run with Nexus, but we were careful to stay away from history (the first Nexus book hit stands 30 years ago; Baron named him). We wanted to focus on the here and now, about him as an artist and he delivered, including talking about his relationship with Baron (there really isn’t one any longer) and what he plans to do when he gets back to comics. I found him to be surprisingly introspective about a great many topics, including the current state of comics. He was more candid in the hour he graciously gave us afterward (which we did not record), but that was ours and we’re were better for hearing what he had to say.

Commissions done out of his Arizona home have been filling his days lately, and if you ‘like’ his Facebook page, you’ll see a great many of them. A recent John Carter color print interested me. He’s also got a fantastic art book that he’ll sign and add sketch to if ordered.
