Where We Come From on Memorial Day

cemetary

I come from San Diego, Calif. And I come from Point Mugu, Calif. I come from Oxnard, Wichita Falls, Midway Island, and Providence, Rhode Island. I come from Plattsburgh, N.Y., Denver, Colo., Panama City, Fla., San Antonio, Texas, Macon, Ga., Portugal and Germany. I come from your home town, my home town and his hometown. They came from many of the same places and some were friends who came from places like Woomera, Lyon, Surrey, Toronto and elsewhere. Their tired …

Off to Spain!

spain

The family and I are off to Spain for four days Friday. We’ve visited Spain previously, stopping and staying at Naval Air Station Rota, on the west coast. Rota’s weather is beautiful and the accomodations were fantastic. We flew on military space-available travel and had zero issues. The trip was also our first without our young daughter. Despite pristine weather comparable to my hometown San Diego and a schedule of activities that kept us running from one side of the …

Motivation from author David Greenberg

slugs

Children’s book author David T. Greenberg spoke to our meeting of the European Parent-Teacher Association Saturday. Greenberg is a graduate of Reed College in Oregon who wanted to write poems. In wading into the world of writing, he received bolstering from an unlikely source, Maurice Sendak, who write Greenberg a letter that said, in essence, “Keep going. I’m digging what you’re doing.” Marching toward his eventual success with books like “Spiders,” “Bugs,” and “Snakes,” Greenberg had his first poem rejected …

Dushanbe_album_-featuredart

[audioplay title="Last Train into Dushanbe"]http://www.jasontudor.com/wp-content/uploads/Jason-Tudor-Last-Train-into-Dushanbe.mp3[/audioplay] I tend to write in a lot of different directions. Writing lyrics (and music) are two of those directions. I don’t do that often, but I got an idea in my head and had to run with it. You can listen to it on the player above. These are the first song lyrics I’ve written and the first time I’ve written in some time. I also wrote the tune to accompany the lyrics. This tune …

Kicking Caffeine

soda-tax

There were cases of it. Flimsy thin cardboard shells holding gleaming blue cans of the drink of the next generation. The first few times 14-year-old me hung out with my friend, I noticed he and his mother kept cases of the stuff on the floor. Never regularly a soda drinker, as my friend and I grew closer, I visited more often and started drinking more and more. Eventually, I got hooked on it. Throughout my military career (about 22 years), I guzzled …

Meet Vorpal, my assassin

Vorpal_featured

Click for a larger version. Illustration by Daniel Picciotto. Character & Likeness (c) 2011 Jason Tudor. All Rights Reserved. Meet Vorpal. She’s an assassin in a graphic novel project. Right now, what I have is a very basic plot, three scenes and some history (including a tie to the American Wild West of the late 1800s). It’s a “backburner project,” but the visual of this character intrigued me based on the history I created for her. I could not, however, draw her …
