Smell: Indian food cooking. Smells foriegn and familiar all at once. (we eat it every day since my indian hubby is the chef of our home during the past year).
Taste: tomato and hellmanns mayonnaise sandwiches on white bread, with a bottle of pepsi- those were business lunches with my grandma when I was about 8 yrs old. and she was a secretary for my uncle's home business. I'd sit on my grandpas recliner while he was away and watch bugs bunny cartoons til my eyes started stinging. Any kind of Rose, or rose flavored scent or taste will remind me of her too. She was obsessed with roses of all sorts in the home and in the garden.
Sound: most songs from the early eighties bring back Thursday nights at the Roller Skating rink. lol! stuff like "Rosanna" and anything from Huey Lewis and the News. awkward when they played the slow songs!
Sight: I hate the sight of a #2 lead yellow pencil with eraser. They remind me of standardized tests where you had to fill in the bubbles.

Ugh! We didn't have screens in Mexico and I had my nights fighting with bugs. If it happens again, try taking a quick shower to cool off. Always helped me.

If I'm at home, I use a large whiteboard on the wall of my office for brainstorming. I also carry a small notebook with me wherever I go just in case I want to brainstorm when I don't have access to the whiteboard. My initial process is similar to yours. I write down everything that pops into my mind -- words, phrases, bits of dialogue, etc. I circle some items, connect related items with lines, let my mind roam free and keep writing until the stream of ideas finally dries up.

I use a similar mind-mapping/clustering technique to develop new characters for my novels. It's a useful tool to help you dig deeper and find new layers in a character's personality.

I go for an eight foot chalkboard and festive colored chalk with the snowflake/popcorn method on my first run. If I can see my notes through the graffiti my children left and the grocery list an hour later, it moves to freemind program. I actually bought a wider monitor so I could see the bubbles better in freemind. Yes, I am that dedicated to my craft. No, it was not an excuse to see streaming Spongebob on YouTube better. Stop looking at me like that.

These kinds of posts always give me a complex about my blog content, but you and I have discussed that before so I don't need to get into that again.

I post three times per week (plus 2-3 times on my dog's blog) and try to have at least one post per week relate to writing. That was tricking when I wasn't writing, but now that I'm back in my groove I've been able to stick to that goal. Other than that I write about whatever silly thing happened in my life that I think may amuse people.I feel that my storytelling has improved since I started blogging, because I can turn perfectly mundane events into fun little stories (at least I hope they're fun!).

I write about things related to my writing, as well as the occasional post on holidays, pets, fiancees etc. :)

I try to get at least one post in a week, and prefer two. I don't try to accomplish anything, other than to entertain. I don't expect peeps to come away from my posts thinking anything in particular, I just want them to have enjoyed whatever it is they read.

Jason... I suffer from reading too many Marketing and Social Media "How-To" sites. I've been up and running in the SM world for a long time. I have 5 blogs:
Broadcast This! - About Broadcasting and my life
Taste This! - My cooking/foodie blog
Green This! - A blog on me taking the steps to be more eco
Do This! - My travel blog
Kasbah Radio - My radio personality blog

I'm like you...I go in spurts where I have a ton to say...then nothing at all. I wish someone would invent "Life-to-Text." Much like Talk-to-text, where I talk and the words appear on the screen, "Life-to-Text" would follow me around all day and watch everything I do...listen to everything I say...then create an awesome blog about it.

Hey Jason,
We started a blog here at our agency earlier this year. We have about 10 employees and we all contribute regularly. We try to post about two times a week; most of our blogs are work related in some way, shape or fashion. Others are about everyday life that's not really connected to work. I think this is a good balance in that it shows our human side outside of the office. Our blog is www.lepoideinmerge.com. Coincidentally my last blog had a bit of Air Force flavor to it as I discovered Rockwell Collins "stole" one of my photos from Kenya and used it in an ad.
Keep up the blogging!
