Voice Auditions underway

January 10, 2008 | Announcements, Project: Machinima, Works in Progress

I’ve started voice auditions for the five speaking roles in the machinima feature I’m producing.  I advertised on machinima.com and also on the Absolute Write forums.  I figured I ought put the ad here, too.  Here it be, edited for this post:

I’m creating an animated feature that has a no-kidding script that should run between 10 and 15 minutes. I’m building it using nothing but video games. The genre is called machinima. If you’ve seen ‘Red vs. Blue’, you’re in the ballpark. It uses multiple video game platforms. Synopsis: This film is about a father who must win an air race to save his family’s ranch. There are some early runs of video here. Goal is to eventually show the film in Georgia short film shows (and beyond) and contests; and also to see if I can do it.

So, here’s where you come in.

I need five voices, three male, one female, one swing character. They must be American voices, or really good faked American voices (see, I left the door open, rest of the world!). Here’s a breakdown of what specifically I want:

  1. 17-ish, smart, comfortable teenager happy in his own shell, CHRISTOPHER, male (most lines)
  2. 40ish father who flies airplanes for a living, CLAUDE, male (second most lines)
  3. A course marshal (one line, easy!), COURSE MARSHAL, swing
  4. A 50-something aviation corporation owner, proud, clever, HAYMAN, male
  5. a 40-something wife, RACHEL, female

Now, you don’t HAVE to be 17, 40, or 50 or whatever to play the roles. I just need folks who can SOUND the role. Vocal quality. Delivery. But don’t think you have to be a professional to do it. Let me hear your voice. We’ll go from there. If that’s you, here’s how we work:

  • You need a microphone and some decent knowledge of how to record audio on your computer. Your microphone should produce decent sound. Not spectacular. Just pretty good.
  • Tell me what your auditioning for based on this post. Read a passage of something — anything — from a book. read the telephone book. Something. Record it. Save the audio clip. This is your audition. if you can save it as a Windows Media file or MP3, even better. Read for about 30 seconds. Let me know what you sound like.
  • You’ll need to get me the file. if it’s larger than 5MB, I’ll need to give you an FTP address. More on that when you need it. Under 5MB, send to jasontudor @ gmail.com

Once the audition file, I’ll listen and then get back to you. We’ll talk specifics and I’ll give you the script. Then we’ll get rolling.

I have to have the voices in place before I can start animating with any vigor. So, if you’d like to play, I’d love to have you. ETA: I’ll take 30 second to one minute auditions through the weekend!

Please contact me here for other questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.
