My wife’s stolen purse
December 2, 2007 | Announcements
So, something personal to wrap up the US East Coast day.
This morning, my wife left her purse in a shopping cart (a la buggy). She went to her car, drove about half a mile, realized she’d left it, went back and it was gone. We asked the customer service counter in the store where she’d shopped twice throughout the day. Nothing.
So, we reported the stolen purse to the police. She didn’t lose much, but she LOVED that purse (a black Coach bag and matching wallet I bought for her while at Abu Dhabi, UAE). Also, we have to change our bank account again. So, we spent an afternoon on the phone with our bankers. She’ll also need a new driver’s license and military ID.
Not sure if I mentioned this, but this is the second time we’re dealing with this in a year’s time. Our house was broken into in October 2006 (as a result of a crooked nanny we had; warrants have been issued; she’s fled). After that break in, my identity got stolen and better than 25 lines of credit were opened in my name (I think I may have posted this).
In any case, I’m disappointed with whoever took it. We live in a small town near a military base in Georgia; we’re not in a hustling large city crawling with desperate people. The city touts its integrity. Unfortunately, in this instance, the population didn’t. One of them is running around with my wife’s purse and probably will sell it to be resold at the local flea market. The other stuff is more inconvenience that anything else.
Deedee, my wife, felt bad and should have been more careful by her own admittance, of course, but someone stole the bag. He didn’t turn it in to a police station. He didn’t return it to the store. He didn’t pull out her ID and call the phone number or come by the address. Nope. He stole it. It seems this season isn’t quite the tonic everyone needs to be warm anf familiar. Maybe he needed what stealing that purse will bring him more than we needed what was inside of it. No matter.
So, there’s no moral here, other than safeguard your valuables. We should be more careful I suppose. I’m sharing it hoping it helps you keep what’s yours healthy and happy this holiday season.
Off to bed.
