Meet Vorpal. She’s an assassin in a graphic novel project. Right now, what I have is a very basic plot, three scenes and some history (including a tie to the American Wild West of the late 1800s). It’s a “backburner project,” but the visual of this character intrigued me based on the history I created for her.
I could not, however, draw her to my own tastes, nor could I get her out of my mind. She’d pop up editing other work. She’d pop up playing video games. I needed to see her. Enter the brilliant, modest Australian artist Daniel Picciotto. I’ve partnered with Daniel to write the first five issues of his property, “Mercer: Pursuit of Honor.” So, naturally, when it came time for me to visualize Vorpal, I asked Daniel to help bring to her to life for me. I did this for two reasons:
[list style="info"]
- Daniel is a fantastic artist with a bright, amazing future not just because of his art, but because of the way he approaches his work, his modesty and his passion/aggressiveness toward prusuing his goals.
- I wanted something to motivate me along as I got closer to creating a full-fledged draft of the GN script.

I provided Daniel with a fairly detailed description as well as a few thumbnails I’d been working on, but the brilliance is all his. He’s working on a second illustration that show’s Vorpal in the ceremonial clothing of her order. Yes! So, let’s all give Daniel some love on this Friday and. if you’re feeling plucky, check out his work on DeviantArt!
