Book Review: A Reaper’s Tale
My friend Adam Slade’s book “A Reaper’s Tale” is a fun ride through the afterlife as well as the nooks and crannies that come before and after death. Available as an e-book from Lyrical Press, the freshman effort proves Adam’s writing chops are good and worth watching as he continues to tell more tales. It also has the distinction of being the first book I read on my iPad (via Amazon kindle software). The book tells the story of Mal, …

Budapest and other projects
Just a quick update, as I’m in Budapest, Hungary, all this week on business. It’s a beautiful steeped in old world charm. I’m here for a week doing a number of things that won’t require to wear a tutu or wax the hair off a goat (again). In any case, let me up date you on some queries and ongoing projects: The primary project I’m working on is a set of comics with an artist from Australia. He’s brilliant. I’,m …
Surviving NFL Kickoff
(Editor’s Note: This is a reprint of an article Jason wrote that appeared on “An Army of Ermas” Aug. 30) Attention warm wonderful wives, patient partners, cuddly companions and gracious girlfriends – you are officially on a 336-hour clock. That’s because football season starts tomorrow. Now, you’ll be told that it …

As Friday is a getaway day, there’s nothing too serious here. Just the random things that don’t deserve 900 words or fireworks. I’ll also give my prediction for the Oakland Raiders games that are coming up over the weekend while its in season, and offer you my …

Before You Hand It To An Editor …
When I hand something into an editor, I’m nervous. Did I proof read the thing well enough? Did I get the whole story? What did I leave out? What’s he or she going to say about the work? There’s a bag full of other questions to go along with those. However, that I’m asking the questions is a good sign. It tells me that I still have a passion for writing. It also tells me that I value editors. Editors, …
The Untouchable Things
We all have them. Certain memories or sensory triggers that send us to a different place. Smells, tastes, sounds and visual stimuli that puts our brain in another world. These are opinions that can’t and won’t be changed. They are ironclad. For instance: The song “Riders on the Storm” by the Doors reminds me of a more pleasant time in my childhood. It reminds me of my stepfather, who served in the Navy , taking me “on watch” with him to …
