I would tell you about my weekend in Italy. However, this isn’t a travel blog. I might tell you about my daughter starting kindergarten, but that would bore the hell out of you. Simply put, I write on this blog when I have something say. That means I don’t write very often.
There’s a gaggle of marketing and publicity advice that says in order to attain a regular following, I should be blogging more often — probably more than twice a month. And even I recognize that blogging twice a month is not worth following. I’m neither celebrity or oracle. So, as my marketing and SEO friends would tell me, quantity is better right now.
However, there are just phases where I find that i have little to say. I;m also busy with other projects. And certainly, you don’t want to hear about the bowl of Mini-Wheats I ate for breakfast or the itch in my ears that’s been driving me nuts for the past few weeks. I enjoy blogging. Sometimes writing in column or essay form is a great release for any number of topics. I just don’t do it that often.
So, I’m curious how often you blog, what you talk about and why you think it’s effective for whatever you’re trying to accomplish. Maybe I should be telling you about my trip to Italy …

I’d love to hear about Italy, personally, so let ‘er rip.
My main blog has concentrated on my bumbling through the publishing process for the last year with a few decent posts that I hope help someone along the way. I let my hair down the last few weeks and got silly — then publishers showed up this morning. Figures.
I have two blogs. Beyond Tourism which is what I put for my website is about Florida History. I used to try and update once a week but my discipline is poor. I have another blog Writer’s House which is basically about everything else.
Now I update my Florida History blog whenever I find something in Florida interesting. The other one is just really whenever. I find it’s not really important to update on a regular basis if you are not making money off of your blog. With history since it is evergreen content I get regular hits anyways with the stuff that is already up. I also started it to show that hey my history degree is being put to use.
i never blog! and i have a website – Swapnil created it for my birthday gift in Jan.
I feel guilty for not using it!
either the thoughts are too deep/personal to share, or maybe don’t feel like sharing?
i do fun exciting things too for the most part – maybe i don’t want to “show off” ? maybe i am just plain lazy? perhaps i should try it out more just to see what comes out. Well, first i wrote a love poem, then I wrote a story about how my cat ran away. I normally prefer to write when there are strong emotions going on – but then at that time, its NOT something to share with the world… so…what to do :-) i have goals I am working toward…but I dont feel obliged to share with the world. hmm! perhaps my next trip to India I might get inspired – because there are stong emotions involved and it might actually be interesting for someone to read… lol – but hey, maybe the mundane is not so mundane? For instance, I wouldnt touch a bowl of mini wheats in the morning for breakfast. I go straight for eggs and sausage – every day. lol. and sometimes the bigger things are just too painful to speak of – like how my dad is going through cancer right now and my feelings about that…not sure where a blog fits into my life. although i am definetly not resistant to the idea – i’m just not sure what to write about i guess!?! thoughts?
Hey Jason,
We started a blog here at our agency earlier this year. We have about 10 employees and we all contribute regularly. We try to post about two times a week; most of our blogs are work related in some way, shape or fashion. Others are about everyday life that’s not really connected to work. I think this is a good balance in that it shows our human side outside of the office. Our blog is http://www.lepoideinmerge.com. Coincidentally my last blog had a bit of Air Force flavor to it as I discovered Rockwell Collins “stole” one of my photos from Kenya and used it in an ad.
Keep up the blogging!
Steve Staedler
It’s always nice to promote my blog…and misspell it. try http://www.lepoidevinmerge.com
Jason… I suffer from reading too many Marketing and Social Media “How-To” sites. I’ve been up and running in the SM world for a long time. I have 5 blogs:
Broadcast This! – About Broadcasting and my life
Taste This! – My cooking/foodie blog
Green This! – A blog on me taking the steps to be more eco
Do This! – My travel blog
Kasbah Radio – My radio personality blog
I’m like you…I go in spurts where I have a ton to say…then nothing at all. I wish someone would invent “Life-to-Text.” Much like Talk-to-text, where I talk and the words appear on the screen, “Life-to-Text” would follow me around all day and watch everything I do…listen to everything I say…then create an awesome blog about it.
I write about things related to my writing, as well as the occasional post on holidays, pets, fiancees etc. :)
I try to get at least one post in a week, and prefer two. I don’t try to accomplish anything, other than to entertain. I don’t expect peeps to come away from my posts thinking anything in particular, I just want them to have enjoyed whatever it is they read.
Adam
These kinds of posts always give me a complex about my blog content, but you and I have discussed that before so I don’t need to get into that again.
I post three times per week (plus 2-3 times on my dog’s blog) and try to have at least one post per week relate to writing. That was tricking when I wasn’t writing, but now that I’m back in my groove I’ve been able to stick to that goal. Other than that I write about whatever silly thing happened in my life that I think may amuse people.I feel that my storytelling has improved since I started blogging, because I can turn perfectly mundane events into fun little stories (at least I hope they’re fun!).
